Question: Slideshows & Images - I’m having trouble with your slideshows or images in general. Can you say anything useful before I go surf somewhere else?
Answer: As of a month ago, I’ve incorporated a few Ajax-based utilities into the blog. They are mostly meant to improve the user (you) experience and accelerate overall navigation. Ajax allows for changes to a page to be made without reloading the entire page, with obvious advantages since you might have noticed that my blog is a little big, complex - and slow. The slideshows use Lightbox, a very nifty script that displays images in an overlay window rather than opening a new browser window. I’ve tested it on as many different platforms as I had available, but as always on the web, compatibility and cross-browser issues are hard to completely bypass. I’d be happy to hear in which circumstances the slideshows are giving you trouble. Lightbox works by darkening the background and overlaying the images in front. It shouldn’t take more than a few seconds to load a single image, and Lightbox will preload the next one while you’re viewing it. If the script hangs and keeps displaying the loading graphic with no further result, try to click outside of the overlay to hide it, and click again on the image you wanted to view. You can also try to reload the page entirely. If for some reason Lightbox slideshows keep failing to load, you can still right-click on an image and request to open it in a new window. Most importantly, the page must finish loading before the slideshow will work!
